Re: "An American In Uganda"

1. What different points of view do we see in this story?

At first we have the vision of a man that has to work hardly to survive, that sacrifices his energy and time to improve his family well-being, a humble, tolerant and respectful man. Then we find an educated man, with a very individualistic way to proceed but, at the end, he shows compassion and humanity.

2. Explain the reasons behind the miscommunication that occurred between these two men.

These two men grew up in different contexts, with a different system of values, they have different priorities, and so forth. Maybe they share the neighborhood but they barely know each other, here is where the communication problem begins. Most of the time people ignores the circumstances that define the others life, so, they never will be able to coexist unless they try to understand multiculturalism.

  1. Gerald, I agree with you. People usually ignores the situation the other ones are going through and they judge and discriminate them without thinking in their lives, or putting themselves in the shoes of the another, and thereby, it won't exist tolerance.
